In 2023, João Rock celebrated 20 years of history, attracting thousands of people from all over the country to Ribeirão Preto (SP). Since 2016, in partnership with Zig, the festival has evolved its consumer experiences, resulting in a 41% increase in average ticket between 2019 and 2023.

In 2016, João Rock faced major challenges with the use of “baquetas”, which were physical consumption tokens, as the festival’s official currency. sales control was complicated and prone to fraud, with tokens easily lost. The closing accounts was imprecise and labor-intensive. Ultimately, the customer experience It also left something to be desired, with constant queues to buy tokens and the inconvenience of dealing with papers that got dirty, wet or lost.

2016 – Arrival of cashless

The festival adopted a cashless system, with advance recharging and card withdrawal at strategic points.

2017 – Year of expansion

With the previous success, payment terminals were increased by 23%. Card withdrawals were made possible at all fixed cash machines.

2018 – Connectivity is here to stay

Introduction of Wi-Fi terminals and first street vendor operation, increasing the number of terminals by 35% compared to the previous year.

2019 – Full-cashless with proximity bracelet

A completely cashless event, with contactless payment wristbands, advance top-up and easy logistics collection.

2022 – Year of recovery

After the pandemic, the festival returned with full force. The Stanley-sponsored currency resulted in 63% of consumption being made via advance recharge.

2023 – 20th Anniversary

Historic record at the festival: 1.200 payment terminals, 25 food partners and 400 street vendors. The cashless bracelet was the official ticket, access and currency of the festival.

Post-event customer experience

Technology for easy redemption at the event

During the festival, customers had access to a cash register where they could redeem the remaining balance on their wristband in cash if there was any left over.

Automatic refund of balance upon pre-charging

All residual balance from the Betsul pre-charge was automatically refunded after the event, further encouraging consumption with early recharge.

Customers who had residual balance from top-ups made during the event had access to a complete request form that enabled them to redeem the remaining balance.
